A Snippet of Greece

There’s something beautiful about old wooden boats and deep blue seas.

But that’s not all Greece is known for. The food, the people and the beautiful landscapes are breathtaking. Even Athens, as weathered as it may look, is still a city worth spending a few days exploring.

As a foodie, my priority when arriving in Greece is to hop on the metro and head into Monastiraki for a souvlaki and Greek Salad. Thanasis, is a bustling cafe on the side walk serving up hundreds of souvlakia or yeeros a day.

But the real prize is when we meet up with our cousins the following day and they host us for lunch - oh my the lemon soaked potatoes, the slow cooked beef in tomato sauce, the thick tzatziki and the never ending loaf of bread to soak up the oil is memorable.

From there we head down the Peloponnese coast, stopping at many small seaside villages for a refreshing swim in the Mediterranean sea. Of course there’s always a taverna blasting with Greek music which draws us in and we sit for hours enjoying a delicious serve of Moussaka or stuffed tomatoes.

The best time to visit Greece, in my opinion, is September. As an avid swimmer, this is when the water is warmer and the crowds have somewhat dissipated. Plus the school year starts around 10 September so many have headed back to the cities to begin their studies.

Over the next few months, I’ll be blogging about the different coastal towns and why we love to visit them. Plus we’ll be sharing about our upcoming foodie tour to Crete, Greece’s largest island. This tour will be taking place mid September 2023.

Happy travels!
